Dear AGROMIX Community,

As we head into the final stretch of our much-loved project, it’s time to showcase our progress, results and findings right in the very nerve centre of the EU. For this, we sincerely hope you will be able to join us for the AGROMIX Policy Summit: Agroforestry for the Future of European Agriculture at the Square Convention Centre in Brussels on 17 April.

The Summit, hosted by Agroecology Europe, is a culmination of our efforts in driving research and innovation towards regenerative agriculture through agroforestry and mixed farming in close collaboration with farmers, academics, and the public. This one-day event aims to facilitate and incentivise the adoption of agroforestry systems and mixed farming under EU legislation by setting the stage for an in-depth exchange between policymakers, farmers and researchers.

In this newsletter we will provide you with everything you will need for this Summit, from registration and press statements to agendas and logistic packs!

But, of course, this wouldn’t be an AGROMIX Newsletter without at least a couple of updates from elsewhere in the project, too! So read on for some of the latest details about our fruitful collaboration with social media network Landfiles and as many upcoming events as you could hope for.

Thanks for joining us!

The AGROMIX Policy Summit

European agricultural policy is at a crossroads as we traverse an era of widespread farmer protests, growing climate hazards, and looming elections.  The decisions we make during this period will be key to defining our success in building climate resilience while safeguarding farmers and promoting sustainable agricultural systems.

There are solutions, though — a farming system that ensures food security, creates dignified living conditions for farmers, increases biodiversity and soil health, and contributes to climate adaptation and mitigation.

Join us at the AGROMIX Policy Summit: Agroforestry for the future of European Agriculture, which is a culmination of four years of concerted efforts geared towards the promotion of agroforestry systems and mixed farming under EU legislation.

Follow the link above to gain access to the official Events Page, RegistrationAgenda and a Logistics Pack to help you plan your trip!

News from the project

  1. A fruitful collaboration between Landfiles and AGROMIX

Check out the AGROMIX Project’s collaborative efforts with the social media site Landfiles,  which aims to facilitate knowledge exchange and create networks of farmers interested in agroecological practices such as agroforestry and mixed farming. On this site, AGROMIX has its own group that aims to collect information from farmers right across Europe. The project is also engaged with the “Comunidad de sistemas agroforestales y cultivos mixtos” (“Community of Agroforestry and Mixed Farming Systems,” in English) group active in the Iberian Peninsula. For more information, check out our article available in English, Spanish, Portuguese and Catalan.

  2. Contribute to the TreeFiles App!

The AGROMIX Project is developing the TreeFiles database, which will serve as a collaborative knowledge base for tree species and cultivars tailored to agroforestry practitioners. In order to bring farmers, advisors and researchers from different parts of Europe together, it is integrated in the Landfiles platform where they can connect with each other. The aim is to allow users to benefit from the combined knowledge of thousands of different practitioners, in order to advance to practice of agroforestry. If you have knowledge of tree cultivation and expertise in your local climate, soil types and management practices, then find out how you can contribute here.

  3. AGROMIX at EURAF 2024

Representatives of the AGROMIX Project will be in attendance at EURAF 2024, which is taking place in Brno, Czechia, on 27-31 May. Here, AGROMIX and affiliates will present the Landfiles platform, the TreeFiles App in addition to other achievements from the project. Stay tuned to our social media for more updates!
