The Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research (Agroscope) is the Swiss national competence centre for agriculture and agroecology under the Federal Office of Agriculture. Agroscope conducts research on environmentally compatible and economically competitive farming by combining ecology, economics and agricultural engineering.

Agroscope has expertise in agronomy, agricultural technology and economics, plant breeding and genetics, molecular biology, biodiversity and landscape development, and eco-controlling. Agroscope is involved in both fundamental science and science for application in the farming context, in particular for crop protection, organic farming, farming systems development, plant breeding, evaluation and promotion of ecosystem services, sustainability evaluation, etc. Agroscope is strongly involved in
European framework projects and COST Actions.
