AGROMIX Public Conference

The public conference ‘Branching out: Agroforestry insights in Europe and Serbia’ will take place at the Salvador Conference Room of the Hotel Envoy Conference Centre in Belgrade, Serbia, on 3 October 2023. The conference is organised by the EU-funded AGROMIX project and hosted by the Network for Rural Development of Serbia (NRDS). The working languages will be English and Serbia, with translation services on offer.
The conference will showcase a wide range of local and international perspectives on agroforestry and mixed farming with expert insights on policy, research, finance, technology, practical information for farmers, and much more.
The meeting will be split into three sections. An introduction to agroforestry in Europe and Serbia will be followed by research presentations from the AGROMIX project before concluding with an ‘Ask the Expert’ panel on how to advance agroforestry and mixed farming in Europe and Serbia.
A WARM WELCOME
Proceedings will be opened in the morning by NRDS president Dragan Roganovic, whose introduction will be followed by speeches from European and Serbian experts including Tamara Gagić, senior research associate at the Faculty of Hotel Management and Tourism in Vrnjačka Banja;Ulrich Schmutz and Julia Stew from the AGROMIX project; Susana Gaona Sáez, Research Policy Officer at the European Commission on EU Research and Innovation in support of agroecology & agroforestry(joining online); and Danilo Golubović, advisor to the Minister for European Integration of the Republic of Serbia.
LEARN ABOUT THE PROJECT
Attendees will then be invited to take a deeper dive into some of the progress and results of the AGROMIX project with more detailed presentations relating to policy, business and best practices.
Ulrich Schmutz of Coventry University and Josep Crous Duran of REVOLVE will cover an overview on how to engage with AGROMIX’s research in Europe; Felix Herzog of Agroscope and Rosemary Venn of Coventry University will give insights into policy monitoring; Andrew Dawson of Wageningen University and Jeroen Watté of WERVEL will discuss the use of a serious game to boost mixed farming and agroforestry; Daniele Vergamini of the University of Pisa will discuss socio-economics and supply chains; and Daniel de Jong of Wageningen University and Ülle Püttsepp of the Estonian University of Life Sciences will talk about AGROMIX’s pilot projects.
ASK THE EXPERT
In the afternoon, the conference will stage an 'Ask the Expert’ panel session on how to advance agroforestry and mixed farming in Europe and Serbia. This will be split into two sections, the first focusing on Policy & Research and the second on Management & Farm Practices. This session will involve short presentations followed by an open question and answer session. The audience will be encouraged to put forward queries and questions related to mixed farming and agroforestry to our European and Serbian experts on the panel.
