Policy Workshop on Agroforestry in Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland (in German)

28 Feb 2023
Restorative Agriculture

Agroforestry offers numerous opportunities for linking productive agricultural land use with other objectives such as climate protection, protection against climate change impacts such as drought and floods, and the preservation of biodiversity. With the advancing climatic changes, which have culminated in several summers of drought and a flood disaster in our region in recent years, the need for solutions is also increasing in Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland.

Agricultural enterprises that have pioneered agroforestry concepts in recent years have been confronted with various administrative hurdles. With the new funding period of the EU's Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), clear framework conditions for the use of direct payments for agroforestry areas were created for the first time. Nevertheless, there are legal details in the application of the CAP that still need to be further specified. There are also opportunities to use agroforestry as a tool for achieving social goals by shaping it in other legal areas (water law, nature conservation law, support programmes).

Aim of the event

Parting from the outcome of the Excursion carried out on the 9th of Feb, we will discuss the current political-legal framework with you in a joint workshop on the 28 February in Mainz. We will discuss current developments, identify administrative hurdles and work out perspectives for further development.

Registration

We cordially invite you to discuss with us and ask you to register by 30 January 2023 (name, institution, number of persons, participation excursion and/or workshop) to j.boehmer@umwelt-campus.de
The event is financed by the AGROMIX project with funds from the European Union. Participation is free of charge.

Organiser

The Institute for Applied Material Flow Management (IfaS) has been working for many years in applied research and consultancy on agroforestry and the development of multi-use concepts and strategies to integrate more social services into value-added agricultural production. Within the framework of the EU joint project AGROMIX, the legal framework for agroforestry in different EU countries and its coherence with the objectives in Europe will be examined, among other things.
