ZHAW is a leading university of applied sciences in Switzerland, carrying out science- and practice-oriented teaching, research, consulting and other services. With roughly 12,000 students enrolled in 28 bachelor’s and 14 master’s degree programmes, ZHAW’s students benefit from an internationally oriented university that focuses not only on conveying practical and specialist competencies, but also on developing social and personal skills. The university also offers around 40 Master of Advanced Studies programmes, over 150 Diploma and Certificate programmes, and various continuing education courses. ZHAW’s eight schools o cover a broad range of subjects: Architecture, Design and Civil Engineering, Health Professions, Applied Linguistics, Life Sciences and Facility Management, Applied Psychology, Social Work, Engineering, Management, and Law. All of its Schools carry out disciplinary and interdisciplinary research.

ZHAW’s Institute for Natural Resource Sciences (IUNR) is committed to the sustainable use of natural resources and intaction between habitats, humans, animals and plants. As pioneers in the development of sustainable solutions, the Institute’s work is interdisciplinary, science-based and focuses on current, socially relevant issues. Its thematic focus is the interface between society, the environment and technology. Within the IUNR is the Centre for Environmental and Agrofood Systems, dealing with sustainable food systems, regional development and tourism. To secure food and its production base, more resource-friendly practices are necessary in agriculture and downstream value-added sectors. The same applies to the management of cultivated
landscapes, and the design of agro-tourism services and regional products.
